Switch your bot to Business Mode
Without Business Mode, your persona only handles fans who open the bot directly. With Business Mode, when a fan DMs you (your personal Telegram account), the persona replies as you, in your own private chat thread.
This is what makes the Telegram migration painless: your fans keep messaging you the way they always did, and the persona handles the volume.
What you need
- A connected bot (see the BotFather guide if you have not done that yet)
- Your personal Telegram account (mobile, desktop, or web)
- About 3 minutes
Telegram Business is a free feature for most users. If your account is in a region or plan where it is gated, the option will not appear in your settings. Contact Telegram support in that case.
Steps
1. Open Telegram → Settings → Telegram Business
On mobile: tap your profile picture, then Settings in the side menu, then scroll to Telegram Business.
On desktop: click the burger menu, Settings, Telegram Business.
If you do not see “Telegram Business” in the list, your account is on a Telegram version that does not have it enabled. Update the app. If it still does not appear, see Telegram’s own support.
2. Set up Chatbots
Inside Telegram Business, find the Chatbots option. Tap it. Telegram asks for the @username of a bot.
Type your bot’s @username (the one you got from BotFather). Tap Add.
Telegram asks two questions:
- Which chats can the bot reply to? Choose All private chats unless you have a specific reason to restrict.
- Reply mode: choose Reply on your behalf. This is what makes the persona answer as you.
Tap Save.
3. Confirm in tease.bot
Back in your tease.bot dashboard, open Bot Setup → Business mode. The status pill should turn green within 30 seconds. If it stays amber for more than a minute:
- Check that your bot’s @username matches exactly what you added in Telegram Business
- Refresh the page
4. Test on yourself
Ask a friend (or another Telegram account of yours) to DM your personal Telegram, not your bot. Within a few seconds, the persona replies in that thread, signed as you.
The reply ships from your personal account, with your profile picture and your handle. The fan has no idea a bot is involved. That is the point.
Turning it off
Same place: Telegram Business → Chatbots → remove the bot. tease.bot reverts to handling only direct messages to the bot itself. No data is lost.
Notes
- Business Mode applies only to private DMs, not channels or groups.
- If a fan replies inside the bot’s own chat, the persona answers there as the bot. If the same fan also DMs your personal account, the persona answers there as you. tease.bot recognises it is the same fan and keeps one continuous memory across both surfaces.
- You can still send manual messages from your personal account at any time. The persona pauses on a thread for a few minutes after a manual message so the fan does not get a sudden tone shift.
